Dopo i post relativi alla copertina di Amazing Spider-Man 50, su comicart-l sono apparsi diversi commenti e inoltre un riferimento ad un’altra copertina, quasi contemporanea, che per ora non ha cambiato proprietario, ma è su ComicArtFans saldamente nella collezione di Stephen Fishler.
Stiamo parlando della copertina di Superman 201.

La copertina si Superman 201 uscì 5 mesi dopo quella di Amazing Spider-Man 201, Questo lascia pensare che rappresentò uno sforzo di emulazione da parte della DC per quello che la Marvel stava facendo con Spider-Man e agganciarsi al successo degli albi Marvel del tempo.
Questa copertina, il cui layout è attribuito a Carmine Infantino per le matite di Curt Swan, rappresenta forse una delle 5 copertine più belle realizzate da Swan e, anche se non storica come quella di Spider-Man, artisticamente è forse più valida, specialmente per quanto riguarda la composizione.
Se questa fosse uscita per prima, probabilmente avremmo guardate alle cose in maniera diversa.
Ma così non è stato

Per i “puristi” ecco l’intervento integrale:
With all the acclaim being given to the Spider-man #50 cover, and rightly so, I thought something should be said about the Superman #201 cover. The Spider-man 50 cover came out 5 months before this, so almost definitly this cover is a effort on DC’s part to try and see if they could do what Marvel was doing with Spider-man, and plug into the sales sucess of Marvels’s line-up of books, in general. In fact, wasn’t this the issue where Superman sees a shrink (?), ala Spider-man #24. Also, Romita is generally held in higher regard as a comic artist then Swan. Even with all that being the case, this Infantino layed out, Swan pencilled cover, for me, while no where near as historic as the “other” cover, is artistically superior to, or at least equal to, Romitas wonderful piece. The spotting of blacks on this cover is far more striking, in fact one of the nicest I have seen on a Swan Superman cover. I also consider the compostion on this cover equal to, if not somewhat better then, the #50 cover. This is definitly one of the top 5 Swan covers on Superman. If this cover had come first, we might be looking at it in a very different light.
